Introduction To Windows server 2008
After 2003 server sucess Microsoft introduced Windows server 2008. Windows server 2008 comes with many advanced features to ease up the system administrators task. First of all we can see what are the minimum system requirements for Windows server 2008.
Processor : Minimum - 1 GHz
Recomonded - 2 GHz
Optimal - 3 GHZ or faster
Itanium 2 processor required.
Memory : Minimum - 512MB
Recomonded - 1 GB
Optimal - 2 GB for full Installation 1GB for core installation(Will Discuss further regarding core installation)
Disk Space : Min. - 8 GB
Recomonded - 40 GB for full, 10 GB for core
Optimal - 80 GB for full, 40 GB for Core.
Drive: DVD drive.
All these above are minimum system requirements to install windows server 2008.
When installing windows server 2008, we have two choices
1. Full installation : Just like all remaining operating systems.
2. Core installation: This is new concept introduced in windows server 2008. If you install core os it doesn't include a GUI or any other unneeded services. It only installs key roles like Active Directory, DNS, DHCP..... After installing core installation you will not get GUI instead it gets only command prompt.
